100 Seniors to Get Connected with Tablets and Smart Phones on May 7
SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) - Eskaton, a nonprofit community-based organization serving seniors in the Greater Sacramento area for 50 years, is launching a groundbreaking technology solution for seniors living at Eskaton Monroe Lodge, 3225 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, California.
“Eskaton Connect turns senior living apartments into smart homes and communication hubs, enabling each resident to experience more comfort, and engage with family and their community,” said Sheri Peifer, Eskaton senior vice president and chief strategy officer. “We partnered with K4Connect to customize its platform for our residents to use to turn on and off lights, set reminders, track fitness, video call family, promote life enrichment and much more.”
“We believe in leveraging technology solutions that will enhance the well-being of each resident. Historically technology has been poorly designed for seniors—Eskaton Connect is simple and easy to use for our residents and staff,” adds Tristin Benjamin, executive director at Eskaton Monroe Lodge.
New technology adopter Lonnie Capps participated in the Eskaton Connect pilot last year and uses a tablet to connect with her son. “When my son was traveling abroad I was able to receive so many pictures from him. It was like I was there with him at times.” Capps looks forward to her peers getting access to the ‘world of technology’ on May 7.
Tech experts from K4Connect recently began installing the smart home features in all 97 apartments at Eskaton Monroe Lodge. Over 30 residents have reserved tablets for pick-up on May 7 at 1 PM, while residents who already have a smart phone or tablet will bring their own device to the launch event.
“To learn how to use this platform, our residents are invited to weekly trainings,” added Benjamin. “We also have a Sacramento State Gerontology intern here three times a week to mentor our seniors on how to use this new technology.” To learn more about Eskaton Connect, visit www.eskaton.org/connect.
